NIR960 960 nm Near-Infrared Absorbing Dye for Laser Shielding and Optical Materials

NIR Absorbing Dye nir960

NIR960 is a black-powder NIR-I absorbing dye designed for wavelength-selective absorption around 960 nm. When measured in MC, it delivers a principal absorption maximum of nm, with a defined and relatively broad absorption band across the measured 600–1100 nm range.

NIR960 offers flexible solvent compatibility, dissolving in AC, MEK, CYC, EGE, MC, TCM, BZ and TL, and can be evaluated in PC, epoxy, PVC and other compatible polymer systems.

With suitable formulation and optical design, it is ideal for the development of laser-shielding materials, laser-processing components, optical filters, NIR security inks, functional coatings, films and polymer-based optical parts.

Key Applications of NIR Absorbing Dye NIR960

NIR960 provides wavelength-selective absorption around 960 nm. The spectrum measured in MC shows a principal absorption maximum at 960 ± 2 nm and a broad absorption band extending across the surrounding near-infrared wavelengths. The final absorption intensity, bandwidth, visible-light transmittance and optical density depend on dye concentration, solvent, polymer matrix, coating thickness, substrate and measurement conditions.

1. Laser Shielding and Laser Protection

NIR960 can be incorporated into polymer filters, coatings, films and optical components designed to attenuate laser radiation around 960 nm. For laser-protection applications, the final product must be evaluated for optical density, spectral transmission, laser power, exposure time, beam size, coating thickness and thermal behavior. NIR960 dye alone should not be considered a certified laser safety product.

2. Laser Processing and Plastic Laser Welding

NIR960 may be evaluated as a wavelength-selective absorber in laser processing and polymer laser welding. It can help manage the absorption of approximately 960 nm laser energy in selected polymer components. Processing performance depends on polymer type, dye concentration, laser wavelength, power, welding speed, component thickness and thermal stability.

3. Optical Filters and Sensor Components

NIR960 can be used in polymer-based optical filters, sensor windows, analytical instruments and functional films to reduce near-infrared transmission around 960 nm while maintaining the desired visible-light performance. Visible transmittance, haze and color appearance should be optimized through formulation and optical thickness design.

4. Security Printing and Anti-Counterfeiting

NIR960 can be formulated into NIR-readable security inks for product authentication, certificates, premium packaging, brand protection and anti-counterfeiting applications. Depending on the ink formulation and dye loading, the printed feature may show low visible contrast while remaining detectable with a suitable near-infrared reader.

5. Functional Coatings and Films

NIR960 can be added to functional coatings and films for near-infrared shielding, optical management, heat-control research and wavelength-selective light attenuation. Potential application areas include automotive films, electronic components, industrial optical materials and specialty polymer coatings.

6. Polymer Modification

NIR960 can be added to functional coatings and films for near-infrared shielding, optical management, heat-control research and wavelength-selective light attenuation. Potential application areas include automotive films, electronic components, industrial optical materials and specialty polymer coatings.

7. NIR Optical and Biomedical Research

NIR960 may be evaluated in NIR optical research, imaging-device development and light-management studies. For biomedical imaging, photothermal research or other biological applications, additional evaluation of cytotoxicity, biocompatibility, purity, formulation safety and regulatory requirements is necessary. NIR960 is not automatically a medical or diagnostic material.
