Perylene Pigment Series
High-performance organic pigments for coatings, plastics, inks and specialty applications.
Perylene pigments are a class of high-performance organic pigments developed for applications that require strong color, durability and long-term color stability.
Nichwell supplies perylene pigment grades in black, red, orange and violet shades for coatings, engineering plastics, synthetic fibers, specialty inks, photovoltaic-related materials and security printing. Depending on the grade and formulation, perylene pigments can provide high tinting strength, good heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance, low migration and strong resistance to outdoor exposure. Actual performance depends on the pigment grade, resin system, pigment concentration, processing temperature and application conditions.

Applications
Automotive Coatings and Refinishing Paints
Perylene pigments can be evaluated in automotive OEM coatings, refinishing paints, basecoats, topcoats and other durable coating systems. They are selected for applications requiring color retention, chemical resistance and resistance to demanding processing or outdoor conditions. Pigment Black 32, Pigment Black 31 and Pigment Red 179 may be considered for selected automotive and industrial coating applications, subject to formulation testing.
Industrial & High-Performance Coatings
Perylene pigments are suitable for evaluation in industrial paints, coil coatings, powder coatings, heavy-duty equipment coatings, marine coatings and other specialty coating systems. The appropriate grade depends on the required shade, weathering performance, chemical resistance, processing temperature and binder compatibility.
Engineering Plastics and Synthetic Fibers
Selected grades can be evaluated in polyolefins, ABS, polycarbonate, polyamide, PBT, PET and other thermoplastic systems. Before production, customers should evaluate heat stability, dispersion, migration, color strength and color change during injection molding, extrusion or fiber spinning. The recommended grade may vary according to the polymer and processing conditions.
Specialty Printing Inks
Perylene pigment grades can be used in selected solvent-based, water-based and UV-curable ink systems. Potential applications include specialty printing, functional inks, packaging-related inks and high-performance industrial printing. Ink compatibility, rheology, particle size and dispersion stability should be confirmed in the final ink formulation.
Security and Anti-Counterfeiting Applications
Selected perylene pigment grades can provide distinctive optical or fluorescent effects under appropriate illumination. These effects may be evaluated for security inks, authentication marks, certificates, tax stamps, brand-protection labels and other anti-counterfeiting applications. The final authentication performance depends on the pigment grade, excitation source, ink formulation, substrate and detection equipment.
Photovoltaic and Optical Materials
Certain perylene-based pigments and colorants may be suitable for photovoltaic-related, optical and light-management applications. Selection should be based on the required absorption and emission characteristics, transparency, thermal stability and compatibility with the target matrix.
Technical Data and Grade Selection
Perylene pigment performance varies by grade. Before selecting a product, customers should consider the following parameters: – Required shade and color strength – Polymer, resin, solvent or binder system – Processing temperature and residence time – Lightfastness and weathering requirements – Chemical and solvent resistance – Migration or bleeding requirements – Particle size and dispersion behavior – Fluorescence, absorption or emission requirements – Regulatory and market-specific documentation – Required packaging and annual consumption
